Birds & Mammals: A Nature Scavenger Hunt

April 25, 2020 - May 2, 2020

Free

Join us for the Birds & Mammals of New Jersey project, another virtual scavenger hunt to mark the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. This promises to be an action-packed citizen-science campaign to help discover robins, chickadees, and all kinds of birds and mammals in our local environment. In order for this effort to succeed, we need you to get out there and observe nature, while continuing to respect social distancing advice.

To participate create an account with iNaturalist and join the Birds & Mammals of New Jersey project starting April 25. Throughout the week, look for all kinds of birds and mammals in your yard, on your walks, and in local parks. When you find one, use the iNaturalist app to make an observation, or take a picture to upload later.

As you identify these creatures, take this opportunity to learn more about them, and see what others are discovering in our community. Which live in our area year-round and which are migrating? What other interesting facts can you discover? Regardless, your efforts support scientific research. Check out our frequently asked questions to learn more about this fascinating project.

We have teamed up with the Princeton University Office of Sustainability to create this series of Nature Scavenger Hunts and hope you will join us in this virtual activity.
