The first Princeton BioBlitz is here! What’s a BioBlitz? A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a defined period of time. Joining with the Friends of Princeton Open Space, our goal is to identify as much of Princeton’s flora and fauna over the course of the summer using the iNaturalist platform.
That means we need you to get out there and discover what’s growing around you! Kids of all ages can participate. Join us to learn about your surroundings and help us monitor the invasive species in Princeton. Look in your yard and on your walks throughout our local parks. How many flowers, butterflies, or frogs can you photograph and submit to this project? As with all outdoor activities, be sure to practice social distancing as you go nature hunting and stay safe.
To participate, you only need to create an account with iNaturalist and get out your smartphone or camera. When you find a bird, a tree, or any plant or animal within Princeton, use the app to make an observation, or take a picture and upload it later. You don’t need to know what you’ve found — the app helps by sharing suggestions.
