SUMMARY:Princeton Battlefield Bioblitz 2026
DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting a Bioblitz at the historic Princeton Battlefield! This is going to be part of a multi-year project tracking the biodiversity of the Battlefield before\, during\, and after the ecological upgrades* taking place! \nWe need as many volunteers as possible to help us gather observations of plants\, animals\, and bugs of all kinds! Now through August! Your observations will be catalogued and used to track changes in the ecosystem. How to join: \n\nDownload the free iNaturalist app to your phone (iPhone app\, Android app)\nJoin the Princeton Battlefield Bioblitz project: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/princeton-battlefield-bioblitz-2026\nGo to the Princeton Battlefield\nTake as many photos of flora and fauna as you can and upload them to iNaturalist!\n\nIt’s a fun thing to do while hiking or walking with friends and family!  \nHosted in partnership by Sustainable Princeton\, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection\, Princeton Battlefield Society\, and the American Battlefield Trust.\n*The Princeton Battlefield Society is adding a large apple orchard and converting more grass lawn to meadow with native plants. There is a historical element to this project\, as well as an ecological benefit! We’re using iNaturalist to catalogue and track (hopefully) increased native plants\, insects\, and birds with these conscious upgrades!

SUMMARY:The Extraordinary Caterpillar Movie Screening
DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership with the Princeton Public Library and the Princeton Environmental Film Festival. \n\nThursday\, August 06\n6:00 – 7:30 pm\nPrinceton Public Library Community Room\nRegister here \n\nThis hour-long documentary shines a spotlight on the critical—but often overlooked—role caterpillars play in biodiversity and follows the scientists and community activists working to aid them. \n\nThe film includes entomologist Doug Tallamy\, co-founder of the Homegrown National Park movement which works to restore the ecosystems that provide habitats\, clean air\, and water. As Tallamy explains\, caterpillars are essential to the food web: a single chickadee nest requires six to nine thousand caterpillars to survive their first two weeks of life. Even grizzly bears rely on caterpillars to fatten up for winter. \n\n\n\nFrom the filmmakers: \nOver 98% of the living world on Earth is smaller than a bee. Yet humans view the planet as a world centered around themselves. Landscapes are deconstructed to suit human needs\, often with little regard for the natural systems that sustain the food web. \n\n\n\nThere will be an opportunity to make a ‘caterpillar craft’ for children or the young at heart. \nA number of lucky attendees will receive a copy of one of Doug Tallamy’s books.
